CYGNUS 517 Statistical Multiplexer

CYGNUS MULTIPLEXERS FORM THE COMMUNICATION BACKBONE OF INDIA'S LARGEST ONLINE TRANSACTION PROCESSING NETWORK - THE INDIAN RAILWAYS' PASSENGER RESERVATION SYSTEM.

  • Multiplexes traffic from several asynchronous RS232 data terminals into a single composite stream. May be ordered with eight or sixteen terminal ports. Typically used in pairs across a leased communication line.
  • May optionally be ordered with a voice hotline port. Can transmit voice and data traffic simultaneously on the same communication link. Telephone instruments, fax machines or PABX ports can be connected to the voice port. Sophisticated voice compression and bandwidth management techniques minimise the composite port bandwidth utilised by voice traffic. This allows effective voice-data multiplexing even on low or medium speed (9.6 kbps or more) lines.
  • May be ordered with a built in changeover facility on the composite port. With this option installed the unit has two composite port line interfaces which can be connected to the remote multiplexer using two different lines. The unit can be configured to automatically switch to the standby leased line if the presently active link fails.
  • May be ordered with RS232/V.35 interface on each composite link for connection to external modems, or with built-in E1 (2.048 Mbps) or 64 kbps codirectional G.703 telecom interface for direct connection to PCM circuits.
  • Highly efficient and optimised multiplexing protocol ensures:
    • Low end-to-end transmission delay for each terminal port, regardless of composite line speed and traffic load
    • Maximum link utilisation efficiency
    • High throughput even on high-delay satellite links
  • Built-in resettable audible alarm which can be activated on alarm conditions.
  • Separate supervisory port with commands to configure operating parameters, monitor the unit and diagnose faults.
  • The remote unit's supervisory function can be accessed from the local unit’s supervisory terminal, over the composite link. No separate communication line is required for this purpose
  • May be ordered with an optional LAN based Remote Management Module. Using this module gives the product SNMP/TELNET capability, allowing it to be managed from a central Network Management Station (NMS) over a TCP/IP network.
  • Comprehensive set of LED indicators for status and activity display; built-in power-on diagnostics and on-line diagnostics for quick fault isolation.
  • A rugged and highly reliable switched-mode power supply (SMPS) ensures trouble free long term operation.
  • Can inter-work with industry standard CYGNUS 516/508V2 statistical multiplexers, minimising training and spares requirement.
